Macbook or PC?
So, I’m looking to get a new computer. The motherboard went out on my old computer. Well, it was just the video card I’m pretty sure. But dell is stupid and in the laptop I have, the video card is built into the motherboard.
I only had the computer for a little over a year, so needless to say, I’m pretty pissed. It’s making me reconsider my opinion on PCs. I’ve been considering getting a MacBook actually. I know that they’re really great laptops, and definitely last. But it’s a pretty hefty price too.
My biggest concern though is school and stuff. I plan on going to school for a computer related major. And I was wondering if anyone could tell me if having a MacBook would cause any problems for me if I wanted to do stuff like that in college? Anyone know?
Thanks!
I switched to a Mac for a similar reason in middle school — I was tired of getting crappy support from HP, Toshiba, and Fujitsu. After three PC laptops that couldn’t do what I needed and would eventually crap out on me, I made the switch. So far anytime I’ve brought my computer to the Apple Store, they tell me it’s no big deal and fix whatever’s broken.
As for working, I think I have an easier time because I don’t use Windows — mostly because Macs are Unix-based, so I don’t have to run Cygwin or PuTTY when I can just pull up a Terminal window. I also have an advantage working with the machines in the lab running Ubuntu, because so much of what I have to do ends up being done in the command line, which works the same between Ubuntu and Mac OS X.
